YOUR FACE SHOULD BE WET AND WARM
Shaving can easily irritate the skin. To help prevent this, you should wash your face with warm/hot water before shaving. A good way to accomplish this is to shave right after you’ve showered. All that steam helps open the pores in your skin.
USE A GOOD SHAVING CREAM
Your Dad probably using the same thing that his Dad used. He passed that same product on to you. Back in the 1970’s, there weren’t a lot of choices. These days, there are all kinds of creams and butters to help make your shave smoother and more comfortable. Spend some time trying them out. If there isn’t much choice on the shelves near you, hit the internet. There are literally hundreds of choices. Want to get creative? Check out the creams the ladies use when shaving their private parts. They can produce a very smooth shave.
USE A SHARP RAZOR
There are dozens of razors out there. The Gillette company has been around since the 19th century, but they have lots of competition these days. The key to remember is that your razor needs to be sharp. If you’re shaving every day, you should probably only use a razor blade about 5 – 8 times. Anything after that and you’ll find that you’re the razor is nicking your skin.
Those are the absolute basics! Shaving can be an art form, so do not be afraid to try different things out. Even if you’re happy with what you’ve got. I used the same cream for 20 years, and randomly spotted a shave butter on the shelf. I tried it out, and it was a huge improvement.
